Gee, I wish we had an edit button. I realized my statement could be taken wrong about posting anonymously - I was only referring to myself and in no way meant to reflect on those using their names. I was only wanting to impart to Chexxxy that I posted but it might not be evident since I posted anonymously. Maybe I'm just chicken to use my name! chair.gif

If I think of something else to post on the blog about Varner, I'll use my name!

The Survivor host is named Jeff Probst. We are talking about Jeff Varner, who was the gay contestant on Survivor 2 in Austrailia. He never even made it past the tribe merge, he was not well liked by anybody in either tribe. Jeff Varner is the Fox news guy who wrote the inflammatory story about Clay, and who is running the blog where the Clay haters are running wild.

I'm a bit confused by the above statement. There are over 600+ comments on JV's blog (just a few of which I skimmed through) while his other blogs have only a smattering of comments. I've also seen the follow-up comments that JV has posted that have been brought over here. Those posts indicate that he has received "hundreds of e-mails in support of his blog" and that he has enough info about the "over the top 'mates'" to write two more blogs.

That doesn't sound like being ignored! That sounds exactly like he is being deluged by fans and foes alike....just what he was hoping for, no doubt!

Fans don't write to support his trashing of Clay and his fans. Read the claymate411 thread and see who's posting and e-mailing him. If anyone here is posting over there, that would really piss me off.

I agree with you Chexxxy - that it's mostly the haters posting on JV's blog....but does JV know that? Does Fox know that?

What they're seeing is that hundreds of "crazy 'mates" are writing to defend Clay...so essentially, they are getting exactly what they were looking for...LOTS of attention.

Jan 7 2007, 09:46 AM
Put it into perspective. Go back and look at the comments and count how many individual posters there are. Percocet and mpslc make up the majority of them. The sad fact is that some people think they can reason with them or they post to "get the truth" out there. It only fuels the argument. If they had nobody to mock and argue with the thread would be boring. Why can't some people understand that?

He deletes those comments anyway, so they fueled the argument and their posts disappear. The people who are reading there would see that it was all over the top haters and dismiss the blog but no. Some people have to be heroes and fight with them.

The same thing happened at PH early last year and at JPs later on. Those people made it 100 times worse than if they just shut up. Sorry I'm ranting but it's not a difficult concept. Arghh!!

Remember Emach and her soul sistas email campaign after AI2 to make us look bad and over the top Clay fans? Yes, there may be a few legitimate complaints from real fans but my guess is it's Emach and her crew, along with some new recruits, at it again. I don't buy her protests of not being involved. From what I read on another private board Jeff has pretty much proven he has blinders on and has only one motive. He's looking for dirt on Clay and that's all he will find acceptable.

I agree, Truth, it is 99% the haters but there are a few self appointed heroes that are doing damage too. If JV only got haters comments on there from the time they arrived en masse and the defenders deserted the blog it would not have reinforced the haters claims like it did and would give them nothing to mock. If they post as both crazy fans and as haters, the blog owner can see that in the stats.

If people want to do good for Clay they should post on positive blogs and avoid the assholes entirely. Start a positive blog of your own. Talk about the good things. Fill the blogosphere with who Clay's fans really are. Arguing with haters and assholes gives them more opportunity to bash and hurt Clay and it makes the fans look nuts.

Look at all of the positive blogs that have spung up since March. That was no accident. Those blogs at the OFC are nice and all but the public doesn't see them. We are fans already at OFC. I started back in March to encourage people to blog in the public blogosphere and it's working. If you want to help Clay and get the world to see him for the good and fabulously talented man he is, then tell it in a blog. Use your voice but not to argue with sociopaths. it's a waaaste of your time.

Your comments are quite logical. One thing is to read what the haters are saying, but trying to argue with them is giving them exactly what they want, attention, and then the hate stays in the limelight. Defenders would just be adding fuel to the fire. I understand people's frustration though when they do read all the hurtful things, your heart tells you that Clay needs the help of his fans, that we can't just be silent and let it go unaddressed. But going unaddressed is what gets it to die a much quicker death and the topic becomes boring.

I agree writing your own Blog is the best defense in spreading all of Clay's great accomplishments and his amazing talent. And, if you're like me and don't feel you are equipped to write your own Blog, then go to the Positive Blogs that were started and read what they have to say and add your comments to those. The more hits they have, the more the Blogs will be on top and curious onlookers with go check them out and discover what an amazing human being Clay Aiken is!!!!

I can't believe that people like PH and JV end up having some sort of celebrity status from trashing people, when they themselves have nothing to be proud of in their contributions to society. They're people who are whining that they were bullied, have no self-worth of their own, and see it as their right to trash on whomever they feel has somehow in their mind slighted them. Even if it wasn't directed to them personally they somehow feel they are the moral compass to judge people on how they should be running their lives. And they do this with information that is made up from someone who wants their own 15 minutes of fame. And when they realize they are wrong they would never come back and apologize for falling into the trap of "believing everything you read."

I hope my last paragraph isn't too confusing, I'm just venting, and this is the place to do it.

Oh Crap
Jan 7 2007, 11:18 AM
Sandy, I don't think the fans had anything to do with the statement that Clay made. This is a methodical, time planned attack and was and is going to happen no matter what the fans do. The blogs stayed silent for a while when lizard face closed his blog. I did 2 blogs since Thanksgiving and neither had anything to do with the smear or JP or haters, etc. Our silence doesn't enter into their picture. Whomever is behind this is going to keep on doing it. I have yet to go to the Claymate411 blog yet they posted that I was there. The idiots and the gay mafia...now there's a pair. We could sit silent and they will keep it going by pretending to be us. That's what they do when we ignore them. Nobody wants to give them or Varner the time of day so they do their usual thing. Post in their own vile personalities, post as someone else in agreement with themselves, post as a Clay fan arguing with themselves, then post as a former fan sympathiser. That's their pattern. They help themselves to our screen names and pretend to be specific fans.

Truth Rules
Jan 7 2007, 11:29 AM

How to Make Up Stories for the Tabloids, Fox News, etc. (32 comments )
When I was making up stories for one of the supermarket tabloids in the mid-1980s, little did I know that I was making up a template for others to follow, to use and prosper and with which take over America, however temporarily. This template has been used by many Republicans, by Rush Limbaugh, by Bill O’Reilly and his colleagues at Fox News, by foreign religious zealots and similar American Christian fanatics, by The Lincoln Group and of course many American newspapers who fail to check the accuracy of their reporters closely, if at all.

This template served me well as I wrote classics like “Rabid Nun Infects Entire Convent,” which happens to also be the title of a book I wrote on the subject of tabloid journalism. Ok, not capital “J” Journalism, but apparent journalism, let’s say.

Stories like “Grandma Turns Pet Dog Inside Out Looking for Lost Lottery Ticket,” “Woman Gets Pregnant, Has Baby Same Day,” and “Cult Uses Human Heads for Bowling Balls” all followed this simple template.

Here are the Rules:

First: Make up something false. It doesn’t matter how whacked-out it is, or how patently false to anyone with half-a-brain.

Second: Put it in a context that people are comfortable with. If it’s for a newspaper, write it so that it really really sounds like a newspaper story, with quotes, even. Make it sound like you have multiple sources, even though you’re pulling out of your butt.

The same goes for TV. It’s always best to have a distinguished-looking person read it, or a forceful one. Or one who shouts a lot and of whom people will be afraid not to believe upon penalty of being bitten. He (or a bleach-blonde she) doesn’t have to actually be an actual journalist at all. A good way to go is to find someone who has recently been a journalist, come from another network, and can provide sufficient credibility when he or she delivers the lies that you have pulled from your butt.

Third: Tell the story a lot. Play the story over and over if it’s for TV. The more you play it, the more people will believe it. Find a way to re-write that lie repeatedly if it’s for print. The average attention span of those inclined to swallow your lie is approximately seven seconds, and his frame of reference is tends to be in the last-fifteen-minutes range.

The big lie, told often, becomes truth after a while. I think Machiavelli said that, or Stalin. Rove, maybe? It might have been Nick Tosches.

Fourth: Pander to the worst in people. Work their fears, their ignorance and perverse pleasures. A worst-case scenario always worked for me. Predicting a worst-case scenario has worked for politicians since antiquity, be it Mongol hordes or mushroom clouds on the horizon.

Fifth: Quote somebody whom others do not know, or will never check. Hardly anybody checks anything. It’s better to jump on board the bus and run with an outrageous story. Some editors will just let things slide. Other editors or news directors have instructions from on high.

Sixth: Make them feel a very big emotion. Get their blood boiling. Make them cry. My stories “Clown Ghosts Save Dying Boy,” and “Dead Daughter Leaves Message of Love on Daddy’s VCR,” are examples that can never fail to bring tears to those easily fooled.

Gross them out. My stories “Man Sells Bodies from Chemical Disaster to Starving Ethiopians as Meat for Prepared Meals,” and “Bandit Steals False Teeth from the Mouths of Elderly Victims,” are prime examples of this technique. The ability to tell a story in a way that makes the audience react emotionally will keep you employed.

Seventh: Whenever possible, get somebody not connected with your organization to deliver your lie. Pay them well to plant stories, or to give opinions supporting your lies. Pay newspapers cash to run stories you’ve made up.

Eighth: Under no circumstances admit you were wrong or that your butt comprises your two independent sources. When someone comes at you with the real facts, call them names. Impugn their patriotism. Imply that they’re mentally ill. Divert all attention from your story. Make them the story. Make yourself the story. Do anything to avoid the truth.

Not all of these rules applied to the tabloid stories I wrote, but they are good rules and true. If you follow them closely, you too can become the next Stephen Glass and get serious backend money on the movie. You could get Random House to pay to make a book out of your lies, as I did.

Or you could get some fool elected president and start a war.

It’s easy.

I brought this over. It's linked on my blog. By the way, if anyone wants to start a new positive blog, I will be happy to link it on my site. Just pm me with the url. The more links you have to your site the more it comes up in searches.

I'm a local viewer of his FOX station, and I felt I had every right to let him know what I thought of him letting the haters use him and his blog for their purposes. I think I told him not to be so gullible. tongue.gif

I believe I also told him that I was disappointed that he didn't report the WHOLE story instead of just one side of it. I know I told him that he'd lost a viewer.

That was the first and last time I posted there. I've never visited his blog again, and I never will. He loves the hits he gets, but I love NOT giving him any more hits. smile.gif

I think I understand why you brought this Blog over, Birdie9, to prove that people can make up whatever they want and get away with it, but I gotta say I don't like your choice of example. This is the most partisan post you could ever read. So, if your Repulican your automatically considered to be spreading lies, but if you're liberal then whatever you post is truth and republicans try to twist it as being false?????

I'm a republican, and I'm sorry Birdie9, but I find his entire blog offensive. This person is as big a hypocrite as JP, JV and PH. I find anything he says just as credible as anything they say or write, which means ZILCH!

It's bad enough having to read all the crap people write about Clay and trying to be sane about it, I would disappointed that its going to be made political too.

JMO, but I needed to say it anyway! Take it for what it is, a rant.

Oh great, over at claymate411, his lead blog is "Here are some very credible sounding comments that were posted on Jeff Varner's blog:

He's now quoting Groucho as "credible!" I won't bother posting what Groucho posted as it's already been posted elsewhere on this Board. It just keeps on going, though, doesn't it? pullhair.gif

I'm beginning to notice a pattern here. Everytime Clay Nation is giddy with great Clay news - someone comes along to stir shit up! What the hell is wrong with these people - is JV the new JPaulass?? ARG!!! Please make it go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nevertoomuch, I brought it over to show just how easily things are made up...strickly the tabloid and Fox News (liked that he included that) comment aspects; They even have a formula. It was not intended to bring up politics in any way, shape or form. I agree that he is a hypocrite and I would like to add "sleeze," to his resume, which it is my opinion the article, itself, reveals. I certainly did not bring it to offend anyone; I'm sorry if I did.

With no edit button, I came back to say, I was seeing tactics used in Clay's smear campaign, not Republicans, when I read the article. You know how Claymates are; we think everything is about Clay.

Birdie, I never read it as a political statement either. When it was first posted, way back at the beginning of this crap, I read it as how JP, PH, et al were running their campaign against Clay.

I guess I wasn't concerned about the political aspects of it.

You know Ziggy, I was thinking the same thing the other day especially since the same haters seem to
be at JV's blog.

I know you didn't mean to offend anyone Birdie, it was just my immediate reaction to the very first paragraph with this guy basically saying the people who were copying his example of how to make shit up were republicans. I guess its a sensitive issue for me.

I know in reading the blog as a whole it definitely is a perfect example of how people (all kinds) get away with making shit up whenever they feel like it, just like JP, JV, PH and Groucho for that matter. And, I know that is the reason you brought it here, so don't worry about it.

If Chexxxy wants to delete my post she's welcome to it, cause I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings either. I don't want to turn things political either.

Thanks for listening!

Well, I'm not Chexxxy, but if I were, I would not want to delete it. That's what we are here for, to listen to each other. You did not hurt my feelings. I try not to take things personally. We are all just so frustrated because of the situation with the asshats.

Reminds me of when perez quoted frogface as a reliable source. One lies and the other swears to it.

In Groucho's case it's One voice in his head lies and another one of his voices swears to it.

Wasn't Varner the one on Survivor who expecting to get voted off secretly took all thirteen fish the tribe had caught for dinner? I think he was voted off about halfway in the series.

Medusa

I believe the Joshua/Greensboro story was just an excuse for Varner to get into the Clay gossip. Another attempt at "outing" him.

I think this is his real reason for the blog:

re: entertainment hiding. i think most PTB cater to the average joe and assume that average viewer, or ticket purchaser will be turned off by certain "facts" about people. i think a lot of it comes from fear of opposition. in my six years as a working journalist, i'm shocked at the number of reporters and news managers who don't report the "controversial" topics for fear of cutting off a segment of the audience or pissing off some entities public relations people. that's not what we're tasked to do.

i think most of it comes from fear really--fear of a career going away, fear of a paycheck being obstructed. in entertainment you want to cater to a mass audience, and it's unfortunate, but we live in a nation where a lot of that mass can't allow people to be who they are. rosie o'donnell gets huge numbers. ellen degeneres gets huge numbers. but if they had "come out" before they hit it big, suits would've kept them down. fear! our audiences are much more forgiving and mature than a lot of decision makers give them credit for. i mean, movie goers gladly made mel gibson's latest movie number one at the box office despite he broke the law, pounded the po-po and defamed an entire race. think about it.

dan rather* unfortunately went out with a dud, despite a huge, impressive, and rarely matched body of work. but the greatest thing the man ever projected onto our society was the call for COURAGE. despite his exit, he was on to something.

regarding clay's web cam shots, i have no opinion or comment. if anyone gets their jollies finding love or sex online, it's their business, not mine. but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know...if a celebrity gets caught in one of those unfortunate webcam situations, they more than likely won't admit it. don't you agree?

*I don't know what Dan Rather has to do with anything. But, whatever...

Varner's motives are clear.

Please don't post at Varner's blog. We need to give him as little attention as possible. He is just another trouble-maker. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore.

Varner agenda is simple - He thinks that he will be the big hero by being the only one who could out Clay. He will then be propelled to the national spotlight and become a reporter on a national level with a major network.

I do not consider Mr. Varner a journalist even though he
considers himself one. He is taking the cheap and easy
way to put his name out there. Unfortunately, Mr. Varner
and everyone like him are too lazy to do the hard and
sometimes dangerous work of a real journalist.

Sandy
Jan 7 2007, 07:46 PM
Oh Crap and Marker - agree with you both but what I'm saying is that is what JV likely believes in his
twisted mind. I hope and pray that no major network would give this creep the time of day, but look at
PH who would have thought he'd end up on GMA.

Maybe thats what JV wants to be the new PH. God help him (and us) if thats what he considers legimate
journalism.

The Claymate411 blog is stretching this story as far as they can, they have posted 2 blogs related to Varner today alone! They are in the Claymate411 section of blogs, go see it, it is getting worse everyday!!
